The seventh session of the Working Group on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities

The seventh session of the Working Group on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities was held on 8 and 9 December 2021. The meeting took place virtually on the Microsoft Teams platform due to the COVID-19 containment measures.

The session addressed three thematic areas in reviewing the implementation of the Incheon Strategy : goal 2 (political participation), goal 5 (early intervention and education of children with disabilities), and goal 9 (the ratification and implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and harmonization of national legislation with the Convention).

A discussion on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on persons with disabilities explored measures to advance disability-inclusive and specific responses to the pandemic.

The session also discussed the preparatory process for the conclusion of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013-2022, following the sixth session of the Working Group.
