Mr. Young-Wook Song, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Korea Foundation for Persons with Disabilities, Seoul, Republic of Korea

 

Mr. Young-Wook Song has worked for four decades on enhancing human rights and welfare benefits for persons with disabilities, providing pro-bono legal services and conducting legal aid activities.

Mr. Song established the Korean Association of Special Care for Children with Polio in 1966, followed by DPI Korea in 1986, also serving as its first President. He is currently the Honorary President of DPI Korea. He served as an initiator of the SAM-AE Association, the parent organization of Korea Polio Association. He held posts as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Korea Polio Association in 1990 and on the Board of Directors of the Korean Society for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in 1998.

Mr. Song’s dedication to the rights of persons with disabilities led him to receive the Order of Civil Merit from the Korean Government in 2009.

Today, he is a lawyer active in promoting human rights of the disabled, an adviser to the government, an international activist and a representative of a press company for persons with disabilities.
