ESCAP participates in commemorating World Tourism Day 2016

In order to commemorate World Tourism Day 2016, ESCAP participated in a special session on "Tourism for All" held on 26 September 2016 at the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. The panel session was organized by the United Nations Word Tourism Organization (WTO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand and CNN. The 2016 theme of the Day is "tourism for all - promoting universal accessibility". Opening remarks were delivered by H.E. Ms. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, Thailand and Mr. Xu Ling, Director, Regional Programme for Asia and the Pacific, WTO. Other panelists included representatives from the Pacific Asia Travel Association, the European Network for Accessible Tourism, and the Lonely Planet. In addition, an ESCAP representative underscored the importance of investing in universal design-based infrastructure and information in the region, which will enable not only inclusive tourism but advance sustainable development towards realizing the 2030 Agenda.
