ESCAP participates in “Make the Right Real” event for persons with disabilities in Brunei Darussalam

On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3 December 2016, ESCAP participated in a “Make the Right Real” event for persons with disabilities held in Bandar Seri Begawan. The event was jointly organized by the Government of Brunei Darussalam, ESCAP and the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) to celebrate the country’s ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) on 11 April 2016, and promote public awareness of the issues and challenges faced by persons with disabilities in their daily life. The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports delivered an opening statement, and representatives from ESCAP and APCD made keynote speeches highlighting the need to review laws and policies in line with the CRPD and the importance of promoting participation of persons with disabilities. The event also included an open dialogue to enhance awareness and understanding of the CRPD and the Incheon Strategy among Government officials, organizations for persons with disabilities, and other concerned stakeholders.
