ESCAP Champions and Promoters for the new Decade: October 2013 update

ESCAP Champions and Promoters for the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013-2022, committed to collective effort in accelerating implementation of the Incheon Strategy to ‘Make the Right Real’ for Persons with Disabilities in Asia and the Pacific, the guiding policy document of the Decade.

The distinguished group agreed on their commitment on the occasion of their first meeting, the Consultative Meeting of Champions and Promoters of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013-2022, organized by ESCAP from 9 to 10 October 2013 in Bangkok.

Each Champion and Promoter attending the Consultative Meeting identified specific Goals of the Incheon Strategy on which they would collaborate with each other, as well as take on the task of advocating action on those goals in their respective countries.
Furthermore, the ESCAP Champions and Promoters provided inputs to a draft roadmap that would serve as a framework for supporting the achievement of the 10 goals of the Incheon Strategy.

ESCAP conferred the awards on the 10 Champions and seven Promoters in recognition of their achievements in realizing disability rights and with the expectation that they would actively support the promotion of the Decade and the implementation of the Incheon Strategy.
