Disability needs assessment and capacity development for Cambodia, 15-17 December 2015

ESCAP supported the Government of Cambodia in its efforts to establish the evidence base on the implementation of the Incheon Strategy to “Make the Right Real” for Persons with Disabilities.

An ESCAP team undertook a mission to Phnom Penh from 15 to 17 December 2015 to hold a fact-finding-cum-advisory series of meetings with Government Stakeholders including the Disability Action Council, the National Institute of Statistics, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, and other line ministries. The meetings provided an opportunity to review the recently carried out population censuses and household surveys on income and expenditure, health, education and employment from the disability perspective, and discuss how to improve the quality of disability statistics. The meetings also identified data gaps and assessed the overall capacity of Cambodia to generate disability information to track progress in the implementation of the Incheon Strategy. Based on the findings of the mission, ESCAP will support the Government to develop a national action plan for establishing reliable baseline data sets on the Incheon Strategy Indicators.
