Mr. Katsunori Fujii, Chairperson, Executive Board, Japan Disability Forum (JDF), Tokyo, Japan

 

Mr. Katsunori Fujii is a leader in the disability movement in Japan.  He has contributed to the development of the Japan Disability Forum (JDF), a network of 11 major DPOs and two NGOs that support the Government in disability work.

He is the co-founder and Chairperson of the Japan Council on Disability (JD), a coalition of DPOs, NGOs and organizations of experts for persons with disabilities in Japan. He has also served as the Acting Chairperson of the Disability Policy Committee in the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan from December 2009 to May 2014.

Mr. Fujii has collaborated with the Japan Bar Association on law suits concerning rights of persons with disabilities. He has also worked with the Japan Anti-poverty Network to set up a telephone hot-line for people (persons with disabilities and single mothers,) who were affected by the March 2011 Great Tohoku Tsunami and Earthquake. With the collaboration of the Japan Cooperatives, he established Japan’s first community-based workshop for persons with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities

He currently serves as the Chairperson of Workability Asia (WAsia), an organization providing work and employment services for persons with disabilities in 12 countries and regions across Asia.
